Ramesh Dewan thanks Deepalaya for running various Dewan Foundation projects

On publication of the Deepalaya 2009 Annual Report, Ramesh Dewan, trustee of The Dewan Foundation thanked Mr T.K. Mathew of Deepalaya for another successful year for running various Dewan Foundation Projects, including the following:
  1. Chameli Dewan Clinic and Mobile Medical Unit. It was noted that the Clinic at Gusbethi which has been running since 2005 with Dewan Foundation Funds, has seen an increase in the average number of patients attending the Clinic per day from 37 last year to 52 this year. In total 14,015 patients were screen through the Clinic during the year, and 18,086 immunisations completed in addition to 7086 children receiving Polio Vaccines. The Mobile Medical Unit provided by the Dewan Foundation continues to visit 6/8 villages each week.
  2. The AP Dewan Memorial Clinic at Kalkaji extension in Delhi has had 7684 patients reached out through the clinic.
  3. 50 scholarships were awarded by the Foundation to young girls from disadvantaged families to cover 100% of their tuition fees at the Deepalaya School at Kalaji extension.
  4. Micro Enterprises Project using The Dewan Foundation funds. Ramesh Dewan thanked Deepalaya to enable the Dewan Foundation to help over 2500 families set micro enterprises since the project commenced in 2004, to include 1414 families starting livestock enterprises, 415 families starting grocery shops, 126 families starting transport related enterprises, 168 families starting building and construction related enterprises and 75 agriculture related enterprises.

Deepalaya is a non - government development organization working on issues affecting the urban and rural poor, with a special focus on children. It is because ‘Every child deserves a chance' that the organization exists and works towards making that possible.

For the past 30 years Deepalaya has been working in the urban slums of Delhi and has also made inroads into rural development in the states of Haryana and Uttarakhand.

Deepalaya is proud to become a member of the United Nations Global Compact. The Global Compact Society is an Apex level nodal agency, having legal status, representing various Indian Corporate bodies, Institutions, NGOs and SMEs supporting the Ten Principles of UN Global Compact related to Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti - Corruption.

This year, Deepalaya got the prestigious award—Best NGO of North India—for the second time by Resource Alliance, Nand and Jeet Khemka Foundation. While celebrating the three decades of community services to humanity.
