Studying an MBA in Singapore

In 2011 Singapore was ranked as the Asian city with the highest quality of living – the first city in Asia to make it into the top 25. Strong trade and investment makes it one of the most lucrative centres for business in the whole of Asia – add the fact that the World Bank also ranks it as the world’s easiest place to do business, and suddenly Singapore starts to become a very attractive prospect for those thinking of studying for their MBA in Asia.

Singapore's quality of life is so strong due to its economy, natural environment, healthcare, public services, culture and recreation. For an international postgraduate student, it is the multicultural aspect that is a large draw - coupled with its focus on international business.

What MBA programmes are offered in Singapore?

In Singapore you have the option to do a 16 month general MBA, covering core areas of business such as economics, leadership, finance, management and entrepreneurship, or a longer (24-32 month) specialised MBA. With a specialised MBA you will study the same core classes that are provided by the general MBA, but you will also have the opportunity to focus on areas of your choice – so possibly accountancy, finance or international studies.

What are the costs of studying an MBA in Singapore?

The average tuition fee to complete your MBA in Singapore is $50,000 Singapore dollars, which is just over £25,000. You can pay this over the period of your study, and students can very often get scholarships or financial aid to help with funding.

Can international MBA graduates stay in Singapore to work after graduation?

Professional visas are issued to foreign professionals who hold acceptable degrees, professional qualifications or specialist skills and are seeking employment in Singapore. This is good news if you want to stay in Singapore to work after graduation.

If you are not a Singapore citizen, you must first secure a job offer in Singapore and then apply to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) for an Employment Pass (EPEC). There are 750,000 expats in Singapore and the government tries to encourage permanent residence for those who are there long term. Permanent residents can get a five-year renewable pass that doesn’t depend on a sponsor employer.
