Course Summary

Course Description

The overall aim of the programme is to enable students, through the development of the managerial and leadership capabilities, to assist or direct the organisations to become more effective and efficient in a rapidly changing, complex and knowledge-based economy; the programme has been designed to maximise the potential of candidates who already have significant managerial experience and who have the capability and ambition to advance to the highest level; the philosophy of the programme derives from the principles of reflective practice and experiential learning; students will engage with principles and theories of business, management and organisation which will provide the frameworks for reviewing, reflecting, analysing and critiquing existing individual and organisational practices; students will also develop new knowledge and skills which will enable enhanced and more appropriate practices to be encouraged; the outcome of this process will be a critical appreciation, in order to build strategic capabilities and to understand contemporary management and organisational issues in a context of change; the development of students as managers and leaders to maximise the performance of the organisation underpins the philosophy; the programme embodies principles of reflective practice, critical thinking and developing reflexivity.



Additional Entry Requirements:
Standard Entry: Year 1 (PgCert in management studies); NVQ level 4 in management or HNC/HND in relevant subjects, or university or CNAA degree, or foundation certificate in management development (Newcastle business school), or acceptable professional qualification equivalent to one of the above; plus 2 (minimum) to 5 years managerial/supervisory experience: Year 2 (PgDip in management studies); successful performance in year 1, or PgCert in management studies (NQF level 7 60 points this NBS programme or direct equivalent); plus 2 (minimum) to 5 years managerial/ supervisory experience: Year 3 (NBS MBA); successful performance in year 2, or PgDip in management studies (NQF level 7 120 points this NBS programme or direct equivalent); plus 2 (minimum) to 5 years managerial/supervisory experience.
