Course Description

The programme consists of 120 taught credits plus a 60-credit research project taught across three phases of learning: Phase 1 (September to December: 60 credits) consists of a set of core modules designed to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical leadership and management skills; it also introduces the concept of operating within an environmentally sustainable business model so that students are better placed to deal with the challenges of a global future; environmentally sustainable business (core); international finance (core); human resource management (core); leadership and management skills (core); phase 2 (January to March: 60 credits) broadens and deepens students understanding of business management whilst continuing the development of practical leadership and management skills; breadth is added by bringing together the core themes previously studied and viewing them through a strategic lens; depth is facilitated by allowing students to direct their study through selection of optional modules; international business strategy (core); leadership and management skills (core); plus 2 options from: managing operations and information systems; international trade and globalisation; managing corporate reputation; global marketing leadership; managing innovation and creative people; design in business; phase 3 (April to September: 60 credits) consists of a 60 credit research investigation culminating in a dissertation; in this phase students have the opportunity to specialise in an area of management that is of particular interest to their career; students who wish to specialise in design management are expected to select managing innovation and creative people and design in business as option modules and to complete their dissertation on a topic in the design management area; students who wish to specialise in marketing are expected to select managing corporate reputation and global marketing leadership as option modules and to complete their dissertation on a marketing related topic.



Additional Entry Requirements:
Good Bachelor?s degree (2:2 or above) from an approved university or institution, or an equivalent qualification acceptable to York St John University; prior work experience is not required; international students whose 1st language is not English must achieve IELTS 6.0 or above with no less than 6.0 in the writing.
