An MBA in sustainability – sometimes known as a “green MBA” – will prepare you for the future of business. Instead of focusing just on the bottom line, an MBA in sustainability will look at ways to make your business more sustainable. This will include issues in corporate and social responsibility, waste management, human resources and innovation.

An MBA in sustainability will touch on all the modern issues facing businesses.

What will I study on an MBA in sustainability?

An MBA in sustainability will combine core business modules such as accounting, finance and strategic management with electives focusing on issues around sustainability. You will be expected to focus on issues in the environment, corporate and social responsibility and how large corporations can have an effect on the social and political landscape.

Some modules you may study on an MBA in strategy include:

  • Energy management
     

Length and structure

You should expect your international MBA program in sustainability to take between 1-2 years to complete full time, depending on the country and business school you choose to study at. In general, European programs take less time to complete than North American ones.

Most MBA programs focus on core business modules during the first half of the course, before moving on to focus on electives in the second half. Assessment will be by exams, essays, group discussions and a final project or dissertation.

Entry requirements

Different MBAs will have different entry requirements, based on the country the course is based in and the institution offering the course. You should expect to be asked to demonstrate relevant work experience, an interest in sustainability and a GMAT score.
