Monterey Institute of International Studies - A Graduate School of Middlebury College
Campus Monterey InstituteThe Monterey Institute of International Studies, a graduate school of Middlebury College, is a small, private school in Monterey, California. We are an academic community committed to preparing global professionals to excel in cross-cultural environments and to “be the solution” to some of the world’s most pressing problems. We achieve this by emphasizing technical excellence in critical areas of study for global issues, including advanced language study. Our institution offers master's degrees in the areas of international policy and development, public administration, trade and diplomacy, global impact management, environmental policy, nonproliferation and terrorism studies, international education management, language teaching, translation, interpretation, and localization management.
Immersive Learning
We support professional development through immersive learning experiences. Students have opportunities for professional internships locally and internationally in all degree programs. For example, the Frontier Market Scouts program trains social investment ‘scouts’ to provide entrepreneurial coaching in several frontier markets including but not limited to India, Brazil, Vietnam, Tanzania, Egypt and Ecuador. We also offer the International Professional Service Semester, where students spend up to 6 months in a junior staff position in an international agency.

The Monterey Institute is proud to be a Peace Corps partner school, and this year was named the #2 school for Peace Corps Master’s International as well as #10 for the Paul D. Coverdell Fellows program.
