TYPES OF MBA

Accelerated MBA
Program and Course Information

An accelerated MBA program is perfect for students who want to complete their MBA studies in as short a period as possible. Typically, an accelerated MBA program will take one year of full-time study to complete.

You will find most accelerated MBA programs based in the US, as traditionally MBA study in the US would take two years of full-time study to complete. However, as most European programs can be completed in a single year, accelerated MBA programs were introduced by US business schools to provide a similar service.

An accelerated MBA program is perfect for students who want to study in the US but don’t have the time or finances to commit to two years of full-time study.

What will I study on an accelerated MBA program?

The content of an accelerated MBA program should be similar to any international MBA program, with core modules and theory followed by a round of electives. The course will be very intense and you will be expected to work long hours on a variety of topics. In general, the content of the course will follow a traditional MBA program, with modules on management, strategy, finance and entrepreneurship.

You should expect your international MBA program to have content on the following:

  • Global business
  • Strategic management
  • Financial analysis
  • People management

Length and structure

An accelerated MBA is an intense, fast-paced course which will have a heavy workload. Your course will be completed in a year and will be based around seminars, case studies and a final project.

Some accelerated MBA programs will require you to have previous business or professional qualifications to ensure that you are able to keep up with the pace of study.

As the course is so time intensive, you will not be able to work while studying.

How can an accelerated MBA program help my career?

While an accelerated MBA can be stressful and intense, it will have an immediate impact on your career. Like a full-time MBA, you will gain business skills, global contacts and technical knowledge. However, you will have achieved all this in a shorter period of time and normally at a cheaper price, meaning you will be able to return to work quicker and at a higher level.

Graduates of accelerated MBA programs tradition see a minimum 25% increase in salary after graduation, with the majority also getting a promotion.

Entry requirements

Most accelerated MBA providers will look for a number of factors before accepting you onto a course. These may include a high GMAT score, previous work experience, previous business qualifications and the ability to attend a preliminary meeting.

You may have to demonstrate the following:

  • A set period of work experience
  • Language proficiency
  • GMAT score
  • Personal recommendation
  • Successful interview
